How To Stop Time by Matt Haig

  • Publisher: Canongate
  • Publication Date: 6th July 2017

What a book to start the year with, I read this for the first time with Chris Riddell’s beautiful illustrations. I was struck by how relatable Tom Hazard’s inner struggles were (not in the time travel sense of course), but with his general battle with finding purpose in life, but how love and support can help overcome them. The author’s study of depression and other anxiety disorders are certainly evident, and you really feel these through the characters’ dialogue and actions. Noteworthy if you need to recommend a book to someone who would like to read a character who experiences these conditions. I very much enjoyed this, and really want to read Haig’s other works as a result!
